Artistic Evolution Panel Discussion: Art at the Natural History Museum, Then and Now

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Larry Bell, Billy Al Bengston, and Betye Saar were emerging L.A. artists, and the Natural History Museum exhibited the work of all three. The trio comes together for this panel discussion moderated by curator Charlotte Eyerman to share stories about the Los Angeles art scene, past and present.
On the Destruction of the Crystal Palace (Musueum on Fire)

For the first work in the trilogy Loving You Is Like Fucking the Dead, Liz Glynn will construct and then burn a steel frame structure combining architectural features of the Crystal Palace with that of MOCA's own facade. Destroying the model offsite, Glynn will bring its charred remains to MOCA, where she will scatter them so that visitors may sift through the ruins; she will also project a film of the burning in MOCA's Arco Court. The evening will be organized into three "movements," each signaled by a changing musical score composed specifically for the project by experimental percussionist Corey Fogel, with Jonathan Silberman, Max Markowitz, John Wood, and Aaron Wrinkle. There is a suggested attire of grey cloth and ten percent white.
