How My Friend Got on Oprah

When Alexis told me, "I want to be the next Oprah," I told her, "I totally see it." Not only did I see it, but I could feel it. Throughout our conversation, I was blown away by Alexis' courage and conviction.

Yesterday I learned some very exciting news. My friend and HuffPost blogger Alexis Sclamberg will be joining the cast of Oprah's new show One! Her castmates include notables such as Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Robin Williams.

I was so excited for Alexis, but not the least bit surprised. The two of us met up for the first time last month. Alexis had joined the S2 newsletter list, which led me to check out her website. I later learned that she had found me via my Forbes article, which a mutual friend had shared on Facebook.

Over drinks, Alexis told me her personal story:

About a year ago, after spending more than $100,000 on law school at UPenn, Alexis found herself in a cushy (but very unsatisfying) job. She had a meltdown, quit her job, and read every personal development book under the sun. Guess what happened next? She decided she was going to start a new life as a self-help expert and media personality.

Now that takes some serious guts.

When Alexis told me, "I want to be the next Oprah," I told her, "I totally see it." Not only did I see it, but I could feel it. Throughout our conversation, I was blown away by Alexis' courage and conviction.

I tell you this story because I think there's an important lesson we can all learn here: Fortune favors the bold. And when I think of all the successful entrepreneurs I've met, they always have two things in common: vision and courage.

Trust me, just these two things alone will take you very far in life.

So is there a place in your life where you could use more vision and courage? Is it time for you to leave a job, relationship, or situation that is no longer serving you?

Please let me in the comments below.

I know it is scary, but I also know that it is possible for you to have what you want.

If you need some help with this, I highly recommend you sign up for Alexis' newsletter to get her "Getting unstuck worksheet." It is pure gold.
