Red, Blue Lines Will Be Partially Closed For Weekend Track Work

Plan Ahead: Red, Blue Line Closed In Sections This Weekend

WASHINGTON -- After weeks of no weekend track work for the early spring tourist season, Metro riders will experience reduced service and partial shutdowns of rail lines as the transit agency continues its aggressive rehabilitation efforts.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, rail service will be suspended in sections of two lines.

The Red Line will be closed between the Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood and Silver Spring stations. Free shuttle buses will serve the closed Red Line stations at Brookland-CUA, Fort Totten and Takoma. Fort Totten's Green and Yellow Line trains will operate normally on the lower platform.

The Blue Line will be closed between the Pentagon and Rosslyn stations, with a shuttle bus serving the Arlington Cemetery station. Blue Line trains originating from the Franconia-Springfield terminal will use the Yellow Line bridge over the Potomac River and service the upper level of the L'Enfant Plaza station in addition to the Archives, Gallery Place-Chinatown and Mount Vernon Square stations. Blue Line trains will also operate on the normal route between Rosslyn and Largo Town Center, including L'Enfant Plaza's lower-level platform.

The work will last through the closing of the system on Sunday.
