Reddit's Top 10 Posts Of 2012: President Obama's AMA, GIFs And More

Obama's AMA, GIFs and Reddit's Other Top Posts Of 2012

User-generated content community Reddit had a banner year in 2012, with approximately 37 billion page views in 2012. But it was an appearance by the leader of the free world himself that sent the network over the top in the last year.

Reddit ran down the website's stats in 2012 in a blog post published Monday. In addition, the social news site saw 400 million unique visitors, 30 million posts and over 260 million comments. While Reddit achieved traffic records, published citizen journalism of the Aurora shooting and offered high-level AMAs ("Ask Me Anything") with the likes of President Barack Obama, the Mars Curiosity team and Snoop Lion in 2012, the year was not without controversy.

The site's lax attitude towards moderation caused a stir when Michael Brutsch, an influential user on the site and a notorious troll also known as "Violentacrez," lost his job in October after having his identity revealed by Gawker. Brutsch had reportedly managed many of the site's most controversial communities, including r/incest, r/picsofdeadkids, r/jailbait and r/creepshots -- a space dedicated to pictures of women unaware that their photographs had been taken.

But in the seemingly infinite Reddit universe, what posts reigned supreme in 2012? The top 10 include everything from a South Korean sensation, an endless supply of funny GIFs and a thread for users' darkest secrets.
