For the first time since the start of the European migrant crisis, women and children refugees are outnumbering single men, according to UNHCR. Women and children now make up nearly 60 percent refugees arriving by sea.

Tuesday marks five years since the start of the conflict in Syria, and the situation is only worsening, according to the UN refugee agency. Just last week, border closures in Europe left thousands of refugees stranded in Greece.

Worldwide, there are over 4.8 million refugees from Syria, reports Unicef. More than two million of them are children. The vast majority of refugees arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs.
