Restore Our Future Ad Attacks Obama Jobs Record

Pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore Our Future will spend $10.5 million dollars to air a new 30-second ad attacking President Barack Obama over the stimulus and the deficit, attempting to draw a contrast between his economic record and Romney's "proven leadership" in creating jobs.

The ad will air from Aug. 21 to Aug. 27 in 11 states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. It focuses on the economy, which Romney hopes will be the key issue in the election.

"The debate this fall... Who can turn around America's economy?" the ad's voiceover says. "Mitt Romney spent his life in the private sector, creating thousands of jobs. Barack Obama wasted $800 billion on a failed stimulus and the jobless rate went up."

The Romney campaign has claimed he helped to create more than 100,000 jobs through his work at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he founded. That claim proved to be a vast overstatement. It was also misleading, given that companies bolstered by Bain also received funding from other investors -- and, as the Wall Street Journal pointed out in July, the firm wasn't focused on job creation anyway. The campaign later downgraded the number to "thousands."

Still, Romney and his supporters have focused on his business background as a key difference from the president, who the Republican candidate often points out lacks the same private sector experience.
