Rick Perry Polling Drop Quashes Book Deal

Perry Inadvertently Quashes Book Deal

It's risky to tie hopes of fame and fortune to things outside one's control -- just ask Jason Stanford and James Moore, authors of a new book about Texas Governor and former front-running GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry.

Adios, Mofo: Why Rick Perry Will Make America Miss George W. Bush was planned and written by Stanford and Moore over the summer, when stories about the political prowess of the freewheeling governor (the book's title is based off an on-air sign-off captured by cameras in 2005) were shaking up the GOP primary. In an ironic twist, however, their book, which focuses more on Perry's controversial record as governor than his gaffe-prone nature, nearly ended up suffering a fatal blow at the hands of his verbal blunders.

Here's Stanford in The Texas Tribune:

There was just one problem. The book was about Rick Perry. And when he plummeted in the polls, our publisher dropped us faster than the governor could say, "Oops." (Granted, that took almost a minute.) Adios, Mofo: Why Rick Perry Will Make America Miss George W. Bush is now out as an e-book and will soon be in paperback, but now without a publisher.

After stumbles in multiple debates, most notably this month with his inability to name the three government agencies he'd cut, Perry has plummeted to just around 8 percent in national polling, a steep fall from his mid-20s number during the summer.

But their publisher's newfound disinterest in a fourth place presidential primary contestant has opened up a new avenue for Stanford and Moore: self-publishing.

Check out the Adios, Mofo e-book on Amazon, here. HuffPost blogger Mary Pauline Lowry says it's a "wickedly witty" read that provides both an entertaining story and a message, regardless of Perry's actual chances at securing the nomination. Author James Moore provides an excerpt from the book, here. And for all those aspiring authors out there drafting up manuscripts on Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, or any other GOP presidential candidate, let their story serve as a warning.
