'The Rite Of Spring' Anniversary: Stravinsky's Ballet Score Turns 100 And There's A Computer Animation To Celebrate (VIDEO)

Exactly 100 years ago today Igor Stravinsky dazzled and simultaneously enraged music lovers in Paris with the debut of his ballet score, "The Rite of Spring." The performance -- marked by its bizarre costumery, startling choreography and dissonant woodwind parts -- famously caused crowds at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées to riot in outrage.

A century later, however, there's no denying the staying power of Stravinsky's epic composition. Just ask Stephen Malinowski, a composer, pianist and software engineer who's recently created a mind-blowing computer animation that helps to illustrate the intricate complexities of the familiar melody. Using his cleverly named "Music Animation Machine," Malinowski brings the piece to life, accompanying the dizzying orchestral sounds with individual animations that follow each and every crescendo.
