RNC Obamacare Attack Ad Features Obamacare Defender Ezra Klein

WASHINGTON -- A new Republican National Committee ad that began airing in Ohio Thursday criticizes Obamacare, but oddly features one of the law's biggest intellectual defenders, Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein.

"If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up," says Obama in a clip spliced into the ad.

Gerri Willis of Fox Business says, "Obamacare introduces 20 new taxes."

Ezra Klein, a frequent guest on MSNBC, says, "Hundreds of billions of dollars in tax increases in that bill."

Larry Kudlow of CNBC says, "This is a major middle-class tax hike." The ad features more pundits railing about tax increases.

The irony is that Klein is one of the more prolific defenders and explainers of the oft-misunderstood law. "Is it a perfect piece of legislation? Not even close. Will everything work as expected? Almost certainly not. But for all its flaws, it’s a good law, which is why Republicans have had so much trouble coming up with state plans that could cover more people at a lower cost. And it’s worth trying," he wrote in The Washington Post on the law's one-year anniversary.

Klein has pointed out that the law does include tax increases. But the biggest increases are not on the individual mandate, but on high-earners and high-end health plans.

Klein in 2010 appeared in an attack ad produced by American Crossroads, the super PAC co-founded by Karl Rove, that hit Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) on Obamacare.
