Roasting Plant Detroit: New York Coffee Shop Opens New Location In Motor City

Newest Coffee Shop Opens Downtown

Though it might seem like the Motor City is overflowing with coffee shops these days, we're of the opinion that too many brewers won't spoil the beans. Like-minded java fiends can now head over to the Roasting Plant in downtown Detroit's First National Building for a very freshly brewed cup of joe.

The Roasting Plant has two other locations, both in New York City, and does things a little differently from most coffee shops, with their "Javabot" machine providing freshly roasted beans. Catch a glimpse of the coffee robot in the video above.

Elizabeth Rose, a Michigan native who is operating the Detroit location and a Michigan native, said she expected their third shop to open in Manhattan.

"But the first time I came down here and got the tour, it became apparent that this was the right spot," she said in the video.

Bedrock Real Estate, one of developer Dan Gilbert's companies, brokered the deal for the Roasting Plant's ground floor location at 660 Woodward Ave. by Campus Martius. The Roasting Plant is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the remainder of the week, with official hours to come.
