Robbie Conal At LACMA: In Conversation With Ted Habte-Gabr

Robbie Conal At LACMA: Street Art Vs. Gallery Art

Who: Guerrilla political artist Robbie Conal and Ted Habte-Gabr, producer of the Live Talks Los Angeles series.

What: Conal and Habte-Gabr will be in conversation about the relationship between "street art" and "gallery art" as well as the difference between art in officially sanctioned and non-sanctioned public spaces. The talk is titled "So Many Bad Guys, So Little Time," which clues us in on the subversive and iconoclastic tone of the event.

When: Monday November 8 (5-7pm)

Where: LACMA
Art Catalogues Bookstore, Ahmanson Building
5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90036

How: Event is free, and no reservations are being taken. For more information, click here.

Why: One man's graffiti is another man's fine art, and political artist Robbie Conal has been pushing this idea for decades with his politically provocative poster art and guerrilla-style "Art Attacks" throughout the nation. According to Conal's site, the artist's favorite targets are "politicians, bureaucrats, televangelists and other people dangerous to democracy and the future of rock'n'roll." Robbie Conal has been a huge influence on political and street artists, including East Side's very own Shepard Fairey.
