The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for U.S. troops and their families. Master Sgt. Robert Allen, a member of Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 deployed in Afghanistan, described the hardship of being separated from his wife in Pawnee, Oklahoma in a touching song.

"It's Christmas time, and I'm gone again. I left you alone again. And I don't have you in my arms to hold, 'cause I'm 7,000 miles away from home," Allen sings.

"It's a tough, hard life, being a military wife, spreading cheer along the way, wearing a smile every day, while your husband's away."

The Marines stationed at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan are among the almost 100,000 soldiers still stationed in the country even as President Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan begins to unfold over the next year.

The Marines at the camp chose to film Allen's song for his touching lyrics as well as his impressive musical abilities.

Allen said he hopes the song, "will help people understand that though we're willing to do it all, it's still heartbreaking."
