Rod And Patti Blagojevich Filling In For Chicago Radio Hosts

Earlier this month, former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich asked a federal judge to cancel his retrial, saying he is low on cash and would rather just be sentenced on his sole conviction from the first trial. While he and his wife wait for the judge's decision, the couple will make their case on a Chicago radio station.

On Tuesday, Blagojevich announced on Twitter that he and his wife Patti will be filling in for Don and Roma on WLS-AM's "Don Wade and Roma Show" Wednesday morning. The show runs from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

“The time is right, given the events in the city, the state, and the region Rod Blagojevich is an undeniably Chicago character who gets people talking,” Michael Damsky, president and general manager of WLS-AM said in a statement. “We expect that he will engage listeners and ask them to weigh in on a variety of issues that affect the state and the world and he won’t shy away from detractors. When he’s on the air, it’s must-listen radio”

Blagojevich has appeared as a guest on the show several times since he was removed from office in 2008, and had his own show on the station for a period of time. Though he faced 23 federal corruption charges during his trial last year, the jury deadlocked--convicting him only of lying to the FBI in 2005.

“I miss talking to the people, explaining them about really goes on and what they can do about it,” Blagojevich said in a statement. “I have a few surprises planned.”

Blagojevich said he would be announcing his guests on Twitter throughout the day Tuesday.

Blagojevich's retrial is set to begin April 20, although he hopes to skip it altogether. Most legal experts say there is little to no chance that a judge will dismiss the trial.
