Romy Schneider's Classic Chanel Look... And How To Get It (PHOTOS)

When A French Couturier And German Actress Meet

German actress Romy Schneider skyrocketed to fame with her role as the ill-fated Empress Elisabeth of Austria in the 1955 movie "Sissi." But when she grew tired of the media attention, she fled to Paris in the late '50s. There, she was restyled by Coco Chanel, who called her the "ideal woman."

In this photo from 1960, the actress, who later starred alongside Anthony Perkins in "The Trial," is pictured lounging at the French couturier's apartment on Rue Cambon (try not to drool over the velvet walls). Her purple tweed skirt, simple black top, pearl jewelry and cap toe pumps illustrate Chanel's signature ladylike style. Wouldn't this look befit a working woman today?

Not everyone can look great in glasses, but Romy Schneider pulled them off. Check it out here.
