Ronnie Lanard Tyson Named In Truck Stop Pepper Spray Death Of Kimberlyn Clarke (VIDEO)

Police have named a suspect in a bizarre robbery during which a bystander inhaled pepper spray and died.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives Wednesday identified Ronnie Lanard Tyson, 22, as the primary suspect in the Weston robbery that claimed the life of 28-year-old Kimberlyn Clarke.

Police say Tyson and an accomplice entered the Cafe 27 Tiki Bar, which is attached to the Seminole Truck Stop, intending to steal a necklace from a male patron sitting near Clarke.

As a struggle between the three ensued, Tyson attempted to disable the man using pepper spray as his accomplice ripped off the chain. The Sun Sentinel reports the spray diffused throughout the bar, causing a melee.

Clarke inhaled the irritating fumes as she joined patrons running out of the bar, but soon collapsed and fell unconscious after hitting her head on the bumper of a van, according to CBSMiami. Clarke was pronounced dead days later at Broward's Cleveland Clinic.

Police received several tips from the Crimestoppers hotline, and positively identified Tyson based on descriptions and surveillance tape obtained from a nearby gas station. The incident was initially deemed a robbery, but was bumped to felony homicide in the wake of Clarke's death.
