Rookie Mistake Brings A Live Gator On The Boat On 'Swamp People' (VIDEO)

Everyone makes rookie mistakes when they're new at a job. It's a part of the learning process. After the rookie mistake this week on "Swamp People" (Thu., 9 p.m. EST on History), though, it's probably pretty safe to say that these guys will never ever make the same mistake again.

After shooting a gator, they began pulling it into the boat. It snapped its jaws slightly, which led Austin to ask if it might not be a good idea to shoot the animal again. "You shot him through the back," he said. "You didn't put a bullet through his head."

But he was pulled on board instead, leading to an argument over whether or not the beast was dead. The alligator certainly held still for a bit, but finally it started twitching its tail, and then appeared to get more and more restless.

"I ain't playing with this thing. He's alive. He coming alive in the boat," Austin shouted. And in a boat that isn't very big, that alligator was looking bigger and more dangerous with every thrash. The boys had to think quick and put the beast down before one of them, or the dog, got hurt.

So Austin secured the gator by its neck and put a bullet through its head, as they should have done before hauling it on board. That's a lesson learned with a healthy dose of fear. A does of fear that will ensure it never happens again.
