Queens dripping in glitter, one with a tentacle, another in a wig shaped like a pot leaf, pranced down the "pink" carpet of the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 premiere last night at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. The Drag Race contestants walked the carpet, led by RuPaul, who touted that Season 6 will prove the most sensational ever.
"I'm so excited about the wonderful group of girls!" RuPaul said. "See, all of these contestants ultimately become my children. It feels like I adopt 14 or 15 kids every year. I am a proud Mama tonight."
In conjunction with the new season, fans can expect a new album from RuPaul, featuring the queens, and a brand new mantra:
"Sissy that walk, kittens!" RuPaul said, smiling, his eyes dancing in the flashbulbs.
The premier party was hosted by Kelly Osbourne who flew in from London hours earlier, because she "lives for this," she said. Osbourne, in a studded leather bow tie, shepherded the Season 6 contestants onto the Beacher's Madhouse stage in front of an exuberant, sequin-clad crowd.
"Watching these queens transform into the beautiful woman they are is true, true art," Osbourne said. "Being part of this show makes me feel more comfortable being me."
Lady Bunny worked the DJ booth for the night, joking within earshot of RuPaul that she's never seen the show. And a bevy of former Drag Race contestants fraternized on leather booths amid the Beacher's Madhouse vaudevillian backdrop. Among the former contestants in attendance, were Carmen Carrera, Alaska ThunderFuck, Alyssa Edwards and Shangela.
Shangela, who is still recovering from a broken leg suffered during a "Night of the Living Drag" performance in New York, assured us that it's unlikely that she'll popping out of anything into Season 6 -- a reference to her surprise reappearance on Season 3, when she emerged from a giant box.
"But you never know," Shangela said, laughing. "No box is ever safe, no cereal box, no holiday box, no box whatsoever."
Alyssa Edwards, in attendance to support her drag daughter, Laganja Estranja, has some advice to impart to the newly crowned queens:
"Look, don't hold anything back, art is subjective," Edwards said. "Make drag your own, live it, rock it, own it, breathe it, love it!"
With all the love in the room, it seemed that RuPaul couldn't help but wax sentimental.
"I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud of this season," he said to his queens, onstage, "I'm so excited to see your star rise and rise and rise, and for all the wrap sheets and all police pictures to come!"
The Season 6 contestants buckled in laughter.
The RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 cast is made up of: Adore Delano, April Carriòn, BenDeLaCreme, Bianca Del Rio, Courtney Act, Darienne Lake, Gia Gunn, Joslyn Fox, Kelly Mantle, Laganja Estranja, Magnolia Crawford, Milk, Trinity K. Bonet, Vivacious. Watch the premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race Season Six on Monday, February 24 on Logo.
