Sacha Baron Cohen Libel Lawsuit Dismissed

With the release of his latest mockumentary "Bruno" just a few months away, the comic provocateur and litigation magnet Sacha Baron Cohen was handed an encouraging decision on Tuesday by a Los Angeles court. Judge Terry Friedman of Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissed a libel lawsuit brought against Mr. Cohen, HBO and the British broadcaster Channel 4 by a woman who said Mr. Cohen had used her name in a comedy routine.

In the suit, the woman (who sued as Jane Doe) cited a skit from "Da Ali G Show" in which Mr. Cohen, disguised as Ali G, conducted an interview with the author Gore Vidal. In the interview, Ali G asked Mr. Vidal why the Constitution should be amended, since Ali G had a girlfriend -- Ms. Doe -- who was constantly "amending herself."
