San Jose Police Officers have set out to help three orphaned children whose parents were murdered this summer.
San Jose couple Pedro and Marybel Jimenez were murdered in their home on July 23.
According to CBS, a neighbor heard screaming and shots fired, and then saw a man in a black hooded sweatshirt exit the home. The neighbor then rushed into the house and ushered the children out, fearing the gunman might return. Detectives believe that Pedro Castellon Medina, an ex-boyfriend of Marybel Jimenez, is responsible for the double homicide.

Soon after, the San Jose Police Officers' Association Charitable Foundation established a fund for the three orphaned children, ages 8, 7 and 4. On Thursday officers were able to present the children with $6,200 in gift cards.
The association initially set up a fund to help the public make contributions to the children's food, housing, clothes and school supplies. They were able to raise over $3,000.
Additionally, the San Jose Police Department held an internal fundraiser to help the family of the victims care for the children. The police officers were able to raise about $1,600, and one officer matched that amount, allowing the department to raise $3,200 total, Sgt. Jason Dwyer told the Marin Journal.
Police are still collecting funds and will present a check to the children at a later date.
Police are also asking for the public's assistance in finding the suspect. Medina is believed to be en route to Southern California headed toward Mexico. Medina had dated Marybel Jimenez at a time when she was separated from her husband.
