Sandringham Estate Body: Young Woman Discovered On Queen's Estate

15- To 23-Year-Old Female Body Found On Queen's Estate

(AP) LONDON -- Investigators trying to identify the body of a young woman found on Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate are focusing on cases of women who have gone missing in recent months, police said Wednesday.

In a statement, police described the suspected murder victim as a white female between 15 and 23 years of age but said they have yet to establish a genetic profile. Testing and searches are expected to continue.

The body was discovered on New Year's Day in a forest three miles (5 kilometers) from Sandringham House, which is at the center of a vast area in rural Norfolk where the royal family retreats for the holiday season.

Police said the body had been there for between one and four months.

British newspapers have focused on several missing women, but police say they cannot speculate about the woman's identity.

Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, were in residence when the body was found.

The BBC reports in the video above that police are investigating the case of Alisa Dmitrijeva, a young Latvian woman who lived 30 miles from the Sandringham Estate.

"How far back this investigation goes depends on what the experts say," Detective Jes Fry was quoted as saying by The Independent. "We are looking at missing persons reports nationwide as well as cases we have been working on more locally for potential links."

Dmitrijeva disappeared in King's Lynn on August 31, according to the Cambridgeshire police. She was reported missing on September 6.

According to The Guardian, British police are focusing on a second woman who disappeared in August, Vitalija Baliutaviciene. A 46-year-old Lithuanian was charged with the murder, but the woman's body was never found.
