Santonio Holmes: Twitter Post Encouraging Suicide 'Wasn't Me'

A lot has changed for Santonio Holmes in the past month. The former Super Bowl MVP was shipped to the Jets for a measly fifth round draft pick, and he was promptly suspended for a quarter of the 2010 regular season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

These developments followed the news that he was accused of throwing a glass at a woman at a Florida nightclub. After the accusation surfaced, Holmes exhibited truly bizarre behavior on Twitter, urging a fan to kill himself and seemingly admitting to drug use.

Holmes now has an explanation for at least one of his controversial tweets. The new Jet tells the Newark Star-Ledger that "it wasn't me," although additional details are scant. "I would definitely be accountable for my actions if I did say it," he added. While Holmes' excuse is sorely lacking in details, at least one of the tweets -- the one suggesting that a fan commit suicide -- has been deleted. (See a screenshot here.)
