Sean Mulcahy Killed Brother's Cat As Revenge For Affair With Fiancee, Gets No Jail Time

Man Killed Brother's Cat As Revenge For Affair, Texted Him Picture

A Joliet, Illinois man has admitted to slitting the throat of his brother's cat in an act of drunken revenge.

Sean Mulcahy pleaded guilty to a felony charge of animal cruelty on Wednesday in Will County court as a result of the August 5 incident. According to prosecutors, Mulcahy was driven into a rage when he discovered that his brother Ryan was having an affair with his fiancee, the Chicago Tribune reports.

After cutting the animal's throat, Mulcahy apparently texted his brother a picture of the butchered animal, with a message reading, "this is what you did to me."

"It was definitely fueled by out-of-control emotions as well as alcohol," Mulcahy told Judge Edward Burmila in court, according to UPI. "I am deeply sorry, sir."

Burmila sentenced to him to 30 months of probation and 150 hours of community service. As part of his probation, he will be prohibited from owning pets, will not be allowed to drink alcohol, and will undergo continued psychological treatment, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Prosecutors had sought 180 days jail time for him, citing previous arrests and expressing concern that he had a "violent tendency." But he will not see any prison time as a result of his sentencing Wednesday.
