Former U.S. Marine Rick Hermelin, 70, has completed a combined total of 200 marathons and half marathons, but he isn't finished pushing his physical limits just yet, NBC reports.

The racer is gearing up to complete a solo 3,000 mile cross-country bike ride to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund, a charity that helps injured Marines.

"It's greater in many ways than other wars, not only because of the physical damage, but also, because of the great psychological damage," Hermelin told NBC.

He'll kick off his journey on his hybridized bicycle in Parris Island, South Carolina in March and aims to finish up in San Diego in 100 days.
