'Sexiest Vegan Next Door' 2013: Yerika Sojo And John Halloran Win PETA Contest (PHOTOS)

Model And Firefighter Crowned Sexiest Vegans

The results are in. A model and firefighter have been crowned the 2013 winners of PETA's "Sexiest Vegan Next Door" contest.

Winner John Halloran, a Rhode Island firefighter, highlighted the health benefits of veganism in a statement, pointing out that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for on-duty firefighters. "I[f] you move more toward the plant-based diet... you greatly [reduce] your chances of heart disease."

Crediting veganism for his improved stamina, he said, "I feel as good as I've ever felt in my life."

Winner Yerika Sojo, an Illinois model/photographer/substance-abuse counselor, said in a statement that what she looks for in a man is "a guy who respects all sentient beings. By doing that, he respects himself, too. To me, that is hot!"

According to a PETA press release, winners were chosen based on a series of factors, including votes.
