MLB Player Avoids Military Service With Win At Asian Games

South Korea's 9-3 gold medal victory over Taiwan on Friday gave Shin-Soo Choo, Cleveland Indians right fielder, a special exemption from serving in the military for two years.

The South Korean government had reportedly promised every team member an exemption from military service if they took home the gold medal.

The 28-year-old helped his own cause by batting in two runs in the final game and according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian, he batted .571, hit three home runs and 11 RBIs throughout the Asian Games.

"I'm here to play baseball," Choo reportedly said. "I love the game. Not everybody can be on the national team."
