It's official: The University of Colorado in Boulder outranks Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and... well, every other school in America.

The Sierra Club's 2009 college rankings of the nation's greenest schools are out, and the University of Colorado has the number one spot.

According to the Sierra Club, the rankings are based on:

a lengthy questionnaire to sustainability experts at hundreds of schools. The survey covered eight categories: efficiency, energy, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, and administration. Schools could earn up to ten points in each category, and up to five bonus points if they had additional green initiatives.

CU Boulder's lowest score (a 3 out of 10) was in the energy category.
