Song of the Year was awarded to fun. and the song 'We Are Young' at the 55th annual Grammy awards.

Song of the Year "recognizes the songwriter(s)." That sets it apart from the Record of the Year category, which "recognizes the artist’s performance as well as the overall contributions of the producer(s), recording engineer(s) and/or mixer(s) if other than the artist," according to Grammy.org.

"We Are Young" songwriters Jack Antonoff, Jeff Bhasker, Andrew Dost and Nate Ruess (a.k.a. fun.) beat Jörgen Elofsson, David Gamson, Greg Kurstin and Ali Tamposi (for Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger"), Carly Rae Jepsen, Tavish Crowe and Josh Ramsay (for Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe"), Ed Sheeran (for his song "The A-Team") and Miguel Pimentel (for his song "Adorn").

In 2012, Adele and Paul Epworth won the Song of the Year Grammy award for "Rolling in the Deep."
