Spotlight: Cora Jane Glasser At James Oliver Gallery

Exhibition Spotlight: Artist Cora Jane Glasser Questions Our Past, Future

WHO: Cora Jane Glasser

WHAT: Query

WHEN: January 29-March 5, 2011

WHERE: James Oliver Gallery
723 Chestnut Street- 4th Floor
Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA

WHY:

Glasser draws inspiration from viewing construction sites, particularly in the neighborhoods of her native New York City. "Query" poses the question, "what will we leave behind and will it be remembered"? Old structures are torn down to build new ones. Glasser uses beeswax and other mediums on rigid paper surfaces to make what she calls "the archeology of the future". Though her sources are structural by nature, they are metaphors for the people who build them, occupy them, and destroy them.
