Dean Cain and Todd Palin's controversial new NBC show, "Stars Earn Stripes,” is getting a lot of criticism, but Cain says even if he doesn’t win the competition he’s a winner -- because he and his co-star Todd Palin are raising money for military charities.

“The whole reason we were there was to say 'thank you' to our men and women in uniform. We are playing for charity and all the money goes to military charities, first responder charities and law enforcement charities,” Cain told me on the set of "New York Live."

“Todd Palin is awesome. He is a very quiet, soft-spoken guy. But he is an all-Alaskan man. He’s an outdoors man. He’s won the Iron Dog race -- a 2,000 mile snow mobile race -- four times and taken second five times. He’s a tough, tough guy. We saw Sarah [Palin] and she’s wonderfully sweet. She’s smaller than I thought. She didn’t get in on the competition.”

Admitting that no one knew how tough the show would be, Dean says there were many times several cast members came close to death.

“There are no stunt people; there is no second take,” Cain said. “Mark Burnett [who created the show] was a former paratrooper. He’s a tough guy, so I knew they would make it pretty tough. It’s probably the most dangerous show ever produced in the history of television. And we signed away our lives, literally.”
