State Solves Deficit Problem By Selling Items On Ebay

New York has the solution to the deficit problem: EBAY. The Daily News reported that the government made "$1.3 million last year by selling its unwanted junk to hoarders across the nation."

The Daily News reports:

"We're very pleased with the program," said Heather Groll, a spokeswoman for the state's Office of General Services, which runs New York's eBay site.

"It reduces the cost of running government and it reuses items in another way - giving people an opportunity to get something that they might not have purchased in a traditional manner," Groll said.

Some of the items sold include a 30-ton pile of scrap metal, a 5 gallon glass container, metal tables and the holy grail for treasure seekers, an old voting machine. The bidding is currently up to $62 and will conclude in three days.
