Station To Station Chicago Brings Mavis Staples, Thurston Moore And Others For One-Day Happening'

Traveling Art 'Happening' Rolls Into Union Station

In a nod to the '60s-era "happenings" that drew together performance artists, musicians and audiences, Union Station will be the site of a train-based, traveling art, music, food and "living film" event Tuesday evening.

Station to Station (underwritten by Levi's) is the latest project from artist Doug Aitken which, for its Windy City stop, is drafting artists like Mavis Staples, sculptor Theaster Gates, Thurston Moore and brother and sister rock duo White Mystery.

In addition to musical performances by Staples and others, artists in and outside the ticketed area will be constructing yurts for visitors to browse and interact with (you can throw frisbees through one, according to STS's release).

Still confused? Take a peek at the STS video (embedded above) for more of an idea of what fun awaits.

The Station to Station train is making stops all month long in cities and towns across New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

The Chicago stop starts at 6:30 p.m. in Union Station. Tickets are $25 and proceeds support the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
