The United States Postal Service doesn't seem to know where the Statue of Liberty is. Case in point -- they printed three billion stamps commemorating the Statue of Liberty, she who invited the world's tired, poor, huddled masses into the bosom of New York's harbors. Only, it was the wrong Statue of Liberty.
As famed stamp news service Linns pointed out, the one they printed was based on the replica in Las Vegas' fake New York, Lady Libery. To any New Yorker this would seem a truly egregious error, but the Post Office doesn't really care.
From New York Times:
"We still love the stamp design and would have selected this photograph anyway," said Roy Betts, a spokesman. Mr. Betts did say, however, that the post office regrets the error and is "re-examining our processes to prevent this situation from happening in the future."
They love the stamp! Or perhaps, they'd rather not reprint a few billion of them. Or perhaps they just don't see the difference.
