Steve Meduna And His Dog: Nonprofit Volunteers Care For Pet When Soldier Goes To War

When Staff Sergeant Steve Meduna found out he would be deploying to Iraq in early 2009, he immediately worried about finding a home for his rambunctious dog, Dozer.

Many pets find themselves left at animal shelters when soldiers deploy for a tour of duty abroad. For Meduna, giving up his beloved Dozer wasn't an option he was willing to consider. Luckily for both of them, Meduna found Guardian Angels For Soldier's Pet, a nonprofit organization that coordinates volunteers across the nation to care for dogs, cats, even lizards, while soldiers are away.
