Storm Tharp And Sarah Awad At James Harris Gallery In Seattle (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: 'Physical, Psychological And Imaginary' Art In Seattle

James Harris Gallery in Seattle is currently showing two exhibitions that draw deeply from our sometimes faulty perception; between paintings by Sarah Awad and "prints and color fields" by Storm Tharp, the shows are as much exercises in form as inquiries into consciousness itself.

Awad's paintings explore how "physical, psychological, and imagined" space exists within the two dimensional surface of a painting. The show features her most recent works, which analyze the way space is perceived by abstracting historical architecture and human figures into ghostly outlines, examining the way we interact with the environment we build for ourselves.

Tharp's show consists of a series of prints titled titled "Health" that showcase the way humans interact with and treat their own bodies, including how a person's physical self plays into their identity and perception of themselves. Tharp cites among his primary inspirations 1970's American film and Japanese portrait prints. Check out their work in the slideshow below.
