Sufjan Stevens' Planetary Collaboration With Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner (VIDEO)

Sufjan Stevens' Planetary Collaboration

Sufjan Stevens, The National's Bryce Dessner and composer Nico Muhly debuted work from their collaborative composition at the MusicNOW Festival in Cincinnati on Friday.

Sufjan Steven's record label Asthmatic Kitty Records announced on March 24 the collaboration and upcoming tour dates, which are sparse. The Solar System served as inspiration for the compositions, titled "Venus," Mercury" and "Saturn." Though it's, well, impossible to place a sound on the planets, the songs seem to make sense, channeling the sheer power of outer space in music. Each composition is accompanied by a trombone choir, string quartet, and percussion.
