TEDGlobal 2013: Daniel Suarez Discusses Autonomous Combat Drones And Their Consequences (VIDEO)

WATCH: Will Weapons Soon Make Kill Decisions?

Throughout TEDGlobal 2013, currently taking place in Edinburgh, Scotland, TED and The Huffington Post have joined forces to premiere talks from a program of multi-disciplinary speakers who challenge the status quo and bring attention to often taboo topics.

On Tuesday, sci-fi novelist Daniel Suarez stepped away from the fictional worlds he is used to creating and instead delved into a very real, present-day concern: autonomous combat drones.

Suarez argued that these weapons -- "real-life killer robots" -- are particularly dangerous because they take the decision to make war out of the hands of humans.

"Autonomous robotic weapons concentrate too much power in too few hands," he said, "and they would imperil democracy itself."
