Well we made it! 2016 is just days away. I don't know about you, but I have laughed cried, screamed, been over the moon happy, been proud, been embarrassed, I have quit, started, failed, succeeded, but most evident: I have been living!
This time of the year, everyone becomes very reflective as well as forward thinking. Once again two sides of the same coin. I would like to just take a couple of minutes and simplify this moment before the new year arrives.
As a personal development fanatic, and self healer, there are three things that I have found that are absolutely essential to our success in 2016. Whether that is losing weight, making more money, becoming an entrepreneur, being a better person, or just living your dreams. There are some things that we must do to ensure that we achieve our goals.
1. We must spend time with our highest self in meditation. I know that sounds flaky, but it is the most important advice I can offer. If we do not know ourself, we are unable to understand and create our world. So many times we are defined by what other people say about us and their opinions about who we should be. most of us has had that one parent or that one teacher that said less than flattering things to us. Meditation is important part of making changes in our life. When we get ready to make a change we have to know why we are making that change, and our why can only come from within.
Why do you want to lose weight? Why do you want to make more money? Why do you want to be a better person? You can only answer this question for yourself.
When I decided I no longer wanted to be a depressed person, I had a very strong why. My daughter. I was getting ready to start homeschooling my 10-year-old daughter and I did not want her to have to spend the day with a sad, grumpy, depressed teacher. I wanted to be the teacher that I would want her to have at school. Plain and simple. This "why" packed the exact punch I needed to help me get started and stay on track. I fall off sometimes, when circumstances are less than desireable or PMS (sorry fellas). But I will never be the same person I was before I made this goal and figured out my why.
So take a few minutes. Find a quiet space. Put on your relaxing music. As you start thinking about what you want in the new year, ask yourself "why" do you want it. Then write down the what and the why. This is one of the surest ways to guarantee your success in the new year.
2. Warning, this is a difficult one. Take responsibility for your life. Stop blaming everyone, everything, the government, your childhood, your spouse, your kids, the economy. Your life is what you have designed up to this point. I told you this one sucks. It's one of the hardest mindsets that I have had to change. I don't like being told my life sucks because of me or that it's my decision to be broke. Even now it makes me want to cuss! lol. But seriously, we are responsible for how our life is turning out. This is mostly due to our negative thinking. The things we tell ourselves about ourselves everyday.
I'll share a personal example. Due to some childhood traumas, I have issues with not being saved from my abusive situation. My mother didn't save me, my biological father wouldn't save me, and those are around me did not know how to save me. Wow that was tough to write, because it sort of lets them of the hook. As I got older, and even up till last week, (I'm a work in progress), I get angry when people don't think to save me from my situations. I tell myself that I would and have saved people before, why doesn't anyone return the favor. But after reading this same concept in over 30 books, here is my coined phrase: "There is no one coming to save you, you must save yourself." Read it a couple of times. Let it sink in. We can start with something simple. When I see something that needs cleaning in my house. I may try to ignore it for a while, but then I hear the voice in my head saying, "There is no one coming." Suddenly I find the motivation to go ahead and clean up because I don't have a housekeeper (yet). You, We must save ourself! If there is something you don't like in your life, fix it. If something is hurting you, heal it. If you want something, find the resources and go get it. Start it. Stop it. Make it better. Get a new one. What ever is the required action, you Must do it yourself. Funny thing is, when people see you saving yourself, they suddenly want to be apart of the process. Sometimes I agree, but most times I just stay laser focused on what I can do to bring about the change I'm seeking. I think it was Gandhi that said, "be the change that you want to see."
Okay I'm done with that! Whoosh! Take a few minutes, think about the things in your life that you want to make better or that are not going so well. How is this your responsibility? What can you do about it? What is one thing that you are going to do ASAP to make what you really want a reality?
Well this is longer than expected. But these are very deep and necessary guideline for being having the life you desire. So take sometime and work with these two tools that I have given you. I will be back in a couple of days with a couple of more steps.
