How The Best-Selling Authors Of 'The Nanny Diaries' Worked Together To Write 10 Novels

How These Best-Selling Women Co-Authored 10 Novels

Everyone knows the adage “two heads are better than one,” but these two women are embodying the expression on a daily basis.

Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, co-authors of “The Nanny Diaries” have been writing together for nearly 15 years. The dynamic duo, who just completed their tenth novel, joined HuffPost Live to discuss the benefits an effective business partnership.

“The advantages so far outweigh any disadvantages that I can think of,” McLaughlin told host Nancy Redd. “We get twice as much done, twice as fast. When I’m doing grocery shopping, my book is getting written."

In addition to getting work done more quickly, McLaughlin explained that having someone with whom you can try new ideas and double-check your work is invaluable when writing a book.

"I can’t imagine having done a second of it by myself," she said.

Kraus also added a word of advice for those who are looking to foster a new, working relationship,

“One of the best pieces of advice we ever got was define your terms, because the phrase ‘hard work’ to one person, could mean something very different to the other,” she said.

Understanding your partner’s work ethic is also key when starting a fresh project with someone new, she continued.

“So even when you’ve had a conversation and you think… ‘oh we’re completely on the same page. We both want to work hard,’ but that could be a 60-hour week to one of you and a 30-hour week to the other,” she said. “So don’t take any part of that communication for granted and that will help you go a long way.”
