I was munching on some fresh mango at breakfast in Costa Rica a few weeks ago when one of my dear friends asked, 'what were some of your favourite learnings from the conference'.

We had just attended a four-day conference where I had the honour to do two of my favorite presentations, one was on business branding and the other one on being an Impacteur.

With half of the mango stuck to my face (you know how mangoes do that!), I pondered the question for a minute. It's a great question.

It got me thinking about something I used to ask myself in different circumstances; 'What is the one thing I'm taking away from this?'
I love the question because it makes me reflect on what I've learnt from any situation, whether it be an event, a conversation, something that went wrong, something that went right, an experience...

The one thing can be applied to anything really. The one thing I figured out today, the one thing I learnt from a challenging moment, the one thing I picked up from a conversation or interaction, the one thing I need to do right now, the one thing that would make a difference in someone's life, the one thing that would make a friend smile, the one thing to re-connect with a loved one, the one thing to impact a stranger, the one thing that will bring me closer to my goal. The list is endless. The one thing!

I find that sometimes when you attend conferences and events it's not uncommon to come home with a whole list of things to do. You are all motivated and excited only to realize a few months later that you've actioned less than 1% on that list. Asking yourself 'what's the one thing I could implement right now that would truly make the biggest difference?' really helps you focus on the stuff that matters and cuts out all the rest.
Once you've taken action on the one thing, just ask the question again and again!

So back to my precious mango munching moment, I shared this question with my friends at the breakfast table and it was fun to go through it one by one to see what 'the one thing' was for them, I even picked up a few awesome lessons from them.
It's not easy to narrow it down to the one thing and I had to think really hard but it's so powerful.

Thanks to my friend's question, it prompted me to stop and ask myself the one thing again every day (or at least that's my intention). It's such a simple practice yet can make such an impact.

Maybe you could try it out also!
