'The Originals': Klaus Reclaims New Orleans, But Has He Lost His Family In The Process? (VIDEO)

'The Originals': Klaus Reclaims New Orleans

Klaus proved that he was the biggest and baddest monster in New Orleans on "The Originals." Despite getting Rebekah to help him try and take Klaus down, Marcel failed. Unless he wanted to stand by and watch as Klaus killed virtually his entire vampire population, Marcel had no choice to but to step down and swear fealty to the new "king" of New Orleans.

But he made sure to point out to his new king that Klaus may have the power, but he'll never have the loyalty and love of those underneath him. That is something that Klaus cannot force through intimidation, violence or cruelty -- and those seem to be the only tools he knows how to work with.

Klaus came out swinging against his family, too, convinced that they never have his side or support him in anything. "You are once again worried that you will be left behind? Has history taught you nothing?" Rebekah asked him. "We don’t abandon you, Nik. You drive us away.”

“Now I make no excuses for past sins, but in the one moment you two could’ve chosen to stand by me, to believe in me and believe my intentions for my own child were pure, you chose to stand against me.”

Klaus told his siblings they weren't welcome in the home he'd claimed from Marcel. As far as he was concerned, they could both stay there and rot.

Entertainment Weekly's Samantha Highfill said that the scene gave her chills, while Hollywood Life's Andy Swift thought it was Klaus' best monologue yet. "I have to side with him on this one," Swift admitted. "He has a funny way of showing it, but I think he does love his baby. And he does want to be a united Mikaelson family; he just doesn’t know how to accomplish that.”

Bustle's Kristie Rohwedder agreed, calling it a game-changer. "I’m on Team Klaus now," she wrote. "That’s what happens when you join forces with Tyler Lockwood, Rebekah and Marcel. You lose my support. Take note.”

"The Originals" airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
