The Vampire Diaries': Elena Comes To Terms With Jeremy's Death, But Will It Cost Her Humanity? (VIDEO)

'The Vampire Diaries': Elena Loses Everything

Elena Gilbert has lost more than any one person should have to throughout the run of "The Vampire Diaries" so far, including her own humanity. But the loss of her brother Jeremy proved too much. She spent much of the episode in denial that he was gone, until finally the enormity of it sunk in. To say she snapped is a bit of an understatement.

Elena made the decision to burn the house down with Jeremy inside of it. There was simply too much pain in those walls and she never wanted them to surround her again. But it was the pain inside of her that was killing her.

Stefan pushed Damon to use his sire bond to help Elena with her grief, but he didn't anticipate that Damon would tell her to simply turn off all those human emotions. Just like that, her face went from grieving to stone. She was still determined to burn the house down though, and that's what she did.

Hollywood Life was moved by the power of the episode, writing that it was a "CW-Emmy-worthy explosion of rage and grief." PopSugar speculated about the future, wondering if Damon's "turn it off" could trigger the rise of an "evil Elena."

There could still be hope for Jeremy, and some of the others lost along the way. Silas has tricked Bonnie into thinking that he's her ally and Shane is encouraging her to sacrifice 12 people in order to bring back all the supernatural beings from limbo. What could go wrong there?
