'The Voice' Live Playoffs: Sarah Simmons Channels Personal Grief Through 'Angel' (VIDEO)

'The Voice' Playoffs: Sarah Simmons Sings Like An 'Angel'

It was Night 1 of the Live Playoffs as "The Voice" began its three-night domination of the prime time schedule this week. Monday night's show saw Team Usher face off against Team Adam, with the remaining two teams battling it out on Tuesday for America's vote. Wednesday will see the live results pare the Top 16 to the Top 12.

While there was a lot of tremendous talent on display, Team Adam's female foursome made a very strong statement for themselves. Amber Carrington continued to impress with her power, while Caroline Glaser connected in an intimate way with Ed Sheeran's "The A Team." Judith Hill was -- no surprise -- chosen to close the night, but the most emotional performance may have come from Sarah Simmons.

Known for her grit and power, she reigned in that power for Sarah McLachlan's "Angel." She dedicated her performance to a close friend who died in an accident last year, channeling that pain through the music.

The coaches were all impressed, with Adam Levine telling her, "I felt the stillness in this room, because everybody was so completely enamored with what you were doing, that they just couldn’t speak."

Hollywood Life agreed, saying that Sarah brought her A-game and should be a sure thing to make it through to the next round. Buddy TV wasn't completely on board, though. "I'm kind of over the novelty of her just singing sad songs every week," they wrote. "Yes, she's fantastic, but I'm just not sure I see the commercial potential in her making people cry all the time."

Fans can tune in Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to see if America voted for her, and come back Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET to see Team Shakira and Team Blake sing for your vote.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
