Who hasn't, at some point, dreamt of dancing in a music video? And I don't mean in the video vixen sense, but more along the lines of Courteney Cox in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark." The actress' pre-'Friends' debut in the 1984 video has always been a source of inspiration, but not something I thought I'd experience.
Recently, I had my moment when I attended a Theophilus London concert earlier this month. After reading on Twitter that the very fashionable Brooklyn-based rapper would be performing a small, private show organized by French website La Blogotheque in a Williamsburg apartment, I knew that I had to attend. Fewer than fifty people gathered into the loft apartment and were informed that the entire concert would be live streamed on YouTube. As a shy girl, I moved to the back of the room, making sure to be nowhere near the cameras. I did not realize, however, that what I thought was the back of the room was actually the front, and only a minute into the performance, I was inches away from Theophilus London.
During the second song off of his upcoming album Rose Island called, "Lisa," which he dedicated to "every single woman on this planet," London pulled me up to dance with him. Panicking, I swayed along to the song, hoping to avoid the camera's eye. I wasn't entirely successful, but the overall result (which you can watch above - my debut is at 2:49) is... well, very Courteney Cox.
