OK, I admit. I have a girl crush on Carolyn Murphy and it started when she sat with my dog Gus for a shoot...on a truck...my truck...for the cover of Australian Vogue! I knew I liked her immediately because she liked dogs...lots of dogs.
While we met briefly at an Animal Haven fundraiser a few months back, I recently got the chance to spend some more intimate face time with Carolyn to discuss the real men in her life, Rupert and Emerson, while Pamela Hanson directed the above video. Yes, every kind imaginable, even a pet prairie dog named Woody.
HOW OLD ARE THE BOYS?
Rupert is almost eight and Emerson just over one.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU HAVING ANIMALS AROUND?
I can't imagine life without animals! They bring pure joy, friendship, unconditional love and connection.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH ANIMAL HAVEN?
Wandering the streets of NY, I was drawn into the space. I fell in love with the staff and the care taken towards each animal. I've worked with a lot of shelters but Animal Haven needs to be the role model for all shelters. When I adopted Chet from there I met Tiffany Lacey and gained immense respect for her and the AH team. They are remarkable.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT SHINOLA?
My role at Shinola has grown from Women's Design Director to collaborating on overall design direction with other products within our brand. We work as a collective so I kind of laugh at having titles. I am creating something truly special that launches this fall. It speaks for the natural alignment I've felt with the brand since day one.
