'This Week' Tops 'Meet The Press' In Demo

Jake Tapper closed out the quarter with a strong performance on ABC's "This Week."

Tapper's exclusive interview with CIA Director Leon Panetta -- Panetta's first network news interview since taking the top intelligence job -- scored with younger viewers, beating out NBC's "Meet the Press" in the Adults 25-54 demo.

"This Week" averaged 990,000 A25-54 viewers, more than "Meet the Press" (930,000), CBS' "Face the Nation" (560,000) and Fox's "Fox News Sunday" (420,000).

The last time "This Week" won the demo was November 22, 2009.

Among total viewers, NBC took top honors, with "Meet the Press" averaging 2.820 million total viewers, more than "This Week" (2.420 million), "Face the Nation" (1.810 million) and "Fox News Sunday" (1.050 million).

For all of Q2, "Meet the Press" won with an average of 2.920 million total viewers, "Face the Nation" placed second with 2.440 million total viewers, "This Week" came in third with 2.360 million total viewers, and "Fox News Sunday" placed fourth with 1.150 million total viewers.

In the demo, "This Week" actually placed second (780,000 A25-54 viewers), behind "Meet the Press" (960,000) but ahead of "Face the Nation" (750,000) and "Fox News Sunday" (450,000).

None of those numbers is a particular bright spot: "Meet the Press" fell to its lowest Q2 demo since at least 1992 and its lowest total viewer delivery since 1992; "Face the Nation" saw its lowest Q2 demo delivery since 1998 and lowest total viewer delivery since 2000; and "This Week" dropped to its lowest Q2 deliveries in both total viewers and the demo since 2005.
