Tim Tebow, Broncos Lose To Cowboys In 2011 NFL Preseason Game (VIDEO)

WATCH: Tebow Impresses in NFL Preseason

Although Tim Tebow is currently penciled onto the Denver Broncos' depth chart behind incumbent starter Kyle Orton, it was an image of him that was gracing the welcome screen at NFL.com on the morning after the Broncos opened their NFL preseason schedule with a narrow 24-23 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, thanks to a daring two-point conversion.

The cult following of Tim Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Florida who has candidly stressed the centrality of faith in his life, can occasionally obscure Tim Tebow, the aspirant NFL quarterback. His jersey was the best-selling one in the league back when he was merely a third-string rookie.

Despite some awkward moments, notably a bobbled snap that led to a sack and a penalty for throwing after crossing the line of scrimmage, Tebow put up a solid stat line. For an uber athletic option quarterback with questionable accuracy, Tebow's six completions on seven attempts has his coach convinced that he is improving.

"Tim is a work in progress," Broncos coach John Fox told reporters after the game. "He made some things happen and he is learning. ... The M.O. on him when I got here is that he does ad-lib some. You don't ever want to take that away from a player. He is a young player that I think is going to get better in time."

Prominent among the highlights of Tebow's night was a 43-yard completion down the center of the field to wide receiver Matt Willis early in the second quarter.
