TIME’s new cover: Virtual Reality. Why it’s about to change the world https://t.co/1nbXSsF36w
— TIME.com (@TIME) August 6, 2015
Time's newest cover was supposed to show off the wonders of cutting-edge virtual reality (VR). Instead, it gave the magazine a lesson in the time-tested art of Photoshop.
The cover features an image of Palmer Luckey, inventor of the Oculus Rift virtual reality device, apparently consumed by some VR moment -- and it spawned instant ridicule on the Internet.
Then, the Daily Dot took it to the next level by isolating the image of Luckey and sending out this challenge on Twitter:
Make your own custom @TIME VR cover photo and tweet it at us. The worse you are at Photoshop, the better. pic.twitter.com/QPl0VuOtSK
— The Daily Dot (@dailydot) August 6, 2015
The result? Hundreds of images of Luckey doing everything from riding a horse with Russian President Vladimir Putin to joining Leonardo DiCaprio on the deck of the Titanic.
That's some serious virtual reality.
Even Time took notice, laughing at itself by posting its own list of favorites.
Here's a look at some of the best:

Luckey even seemed to enjoy the fun, writing on Twitter:
