Todd Love, Triple-Amputee Marine Veteran, Visits Atlanta Falcons Practice (VIDEO)

The word "hero" is thrown around a lot in sports, but this past weekend, the Atlanta Falcons paid tribute to some real heroes when they hosted a pair of injured war veterans.

Army Sgt. First Class Michael Schlitz and Marine Cpl. Todd Love, who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively, joined the Falcons in practice on Friday before being honored during Sunday's Salute to Service game, according to the Falcons blog. The team has partnered with the Steven Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation to raise money to build smart homes for the two soldiers as well as other vets across the nation.

In the video above, Falcons kicker Matt Bryant uses Love as his holder before kicking the football through the uprights during Friday's practice. Love, who lost his arm and both his legs in an IED explosion in October 2010, is no stranger to inspiring athletic feats, having completed the grueling 10.5-mile Spartan Race obstacle course in August and wrestling an alligator in a July episode of Animal Planet's Gator Boys.

The two foundations are collaborating on a program called Building for America's Bravest, in which they erect custom-built smart homes with iPad-enabled controls that allow wounded soldiers to navigate their home despite their injuries. There are currently 16 houses in the works that will be donated to veterans such as Love, Schlitz, and Travis Mills, who lost all four of his limbs in Afghanistan.

"It really makes me be proud to be an American to see so many people come together for veterans and myself," Love told HLN. "I hope to see the other veterans get their houses as well."
