Tommy Thompson Airs First TV Ad, Poll Finds Key Race In Dead Heat

Tommy Thompson is out with his first TV ad in the Wisconsin Senate race. The Republican former governor promises in the ad to repeal "Obamacare" and "stop Washington from busting the budget, killing jobs and destroying our children's future."

National Journal points out that Thompson has been criticized for supporting an early version of the health care bill.

Thompson will likely face Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) in the general election in November. A new poll from the Democratic-leaning polling firm Public Policy Polling shows the race is still in a head heat, with Baldwin leading Thompson 46-45.

The poll found Thompson's favorability rating at 41 percent and Baldwin, one of the most progressive members of Congress, to be a polarizing figure in the midwestern state.
