Vt. Police Arrest Trevor Burton, Man In Car Accident Who Allegedly Tried To Hijack Fire Truck

After Car Crash, Man Allegedly Tries To Hijack Fire Truck That Came To The Rescue

A car accident in Vermont was the start of a wild afternoon chase and a showdown for police and firefighters who responded to the crash on Wednesday.

A passenger in the vehicle allegedly brandished a .9mm handgun and tried to hijack a fire truck that responded to the scene in Lincoln, The Burlington Free Press said.

Trevor Burton, 30, climbed into the fire truck with his pit bull terrier, but firefighters persuaded him not to drive away, according to The Associated Press. Burton surrendered the gun's magazine and gave himself up without a fight, but his dog bit a fireman's finger, The Free Press said.

While Burton created the standoff, the driver of the wrecked vehicle, Michael Farnolo, 41, allegedly fled. He was tracked down a few miles away.

Police charged Burton with driving under the influence, operation without owner's consent and driving with a suspended license. Farnolo was booked for leaving the scene of an accident, the AP said.
